Ben Wagoner Sweeps For First Career Win at Lee County!
(Bill W) July 9, 2010 - Ben Wagoner made it a sweep on Friday night at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders. The Emden, Illinois native took the checkers first in his heat, the dash and the main event to collect his first career Sprint Invaders win.
Russ Hall took command in the early going of the 25-lap feature paying $1,200 to the winner. Hall's lead put three lapped cars between himself and Wagoner at one point. The 3/8 mile oval was dry-slick early in the night and started to collect a good deal of rubber. Jake Blackhurst, who became an alternate for the event when Seth Wilke could not start and Mike Houseman Jr. did not make the call, flipped wildly in turn two with ten laps in the books. The fourteen year old driver was uninjured.
Hall led Josh Schneiderman, Wagoner, Mike Trent and Kaley Gharst back to green flag racing. By lap 16, the top three cars were nose to tail, with Wagoner taking second back from Schneiderman. With rubber down hard, Wagoner made his winning move by getting around Hall on the 19th lap. From there he pulled away. "It was tough to get around him," said Wagoner of his run at Hall. "I had an idea that it would take rubber. Halfway through the race, the car started coming in for me. I was waiting for Russ to make a mistake, and I was finally barely able to squeak by him." The wait was worth it for Ben's first win. "It's been a long time coming," said Wagoner. "We’ve been so close. It's been driving me crazy. Last year was our rookie year, and this year has been so up and down. We're either running up front, or going off on the hook. It's a good feeling to get the win out of the way, and maybe we can get some more now."
Hall was able to hold onto second after a late restart for Haley Arnold, who spun. "I didn't want to see a red or the caution at all," said Hall relating to his big lead early. "I knew if we got the restart that we would be in trouble, because we were snug against the fence. I could smell the rubber, but I was just too tight and Ben did a good job. I have to thank Mike Waddell and all the sponsors who keep us going like Mike and Dean Drywall." Schneiderman was able to bring home third. "We were nice early, and when the rubber came, it was one-lane and tough to pass," he said. "We're definitely happy with third, with it being our first 360 start of the year. Our tire was totally bald, so to finish third was all we could ask for. J&J gives us a great car and Bobby Jack's supplies us with some good power."
Trent finished fourth and Gharst was fifth, both finishing without brakes. Jordan Goldesberry, Mark Shirshekan, Donnie Steward, hard-charger Ryan Jamison and Bobby Mincer completed the top ten.
Joining Wagoner with heat wins were Hall and Schneiderman. Josh Higday took the B main. Tasker Phillips who scored a podium finish at Donnellson in June, flipped in his heat and was done for the night. He was uninjured.

Mincer Blasts to Win at West Liberty Speedway
Its All Joey Moughan for SIA at Jacksonville
(Bill W) June 25, 2010 - Joey Moughan won his second career Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders feature at the Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, by leading from start to finish in a feature that went 25 laps without a caution. The win followed up a 410 triumph at the same location two weeks earlier, and paid the Springfield, Illinois driver $1,200.
Justin Parrish won the Green Chevrolet of Jacksonville Shake-Up Dash, and his roll of the die put Moughan outside row one for the feature. Joey had an oil filter send up a plume of smoke on the last lap of the dash, leaving the crowd in doubt that he would make repairs.
Before the feature could go a lap, contact involving several cars in turn four created a complete restart. Ryan Jamison and Korey Weyant made the most contact, with the latter having his left front tire come off the rim. He would continue in the event. Andy Huston was not as lucky, as serious damage on the backstretch ended his night.
Once the green was flown again, the race went non-stop. Joey Moughan shot out to a lead and continued to build on it. "I was lucky enough to get a good draw from the dash up front, and get out in some clean air," he said. "The car was magnificent. It was one of the best I've driven here."
About ten laps in, Moughan found rubber developing through the middle of the turns, and despite the track narrowing, made his way through lapped traffic in good order. His win came by 1/4 of a lap. "I started pushing a little bit, and it felt like the left rear tire was getting some drive," he said. "I took the car through the middle and it was good, so that's where I stayed. I didn't know how close they were, I just didn't want to make a mistake. I want to thank Jeff Hicks, Modern Paving and Scrap and everyone who helps on this car."
At the halfway point, Moughan was chased by Donnie Steward, Kaley Gharst and Ben Wagoner. One lap later, Gharst and Wagoner worked their way into second and third. That would be where they finished. "The place to run early was definitely on the top," said Gharst, who started sixth. "We got a good start. When I saw Steward trying to get high around a lap car, I was able to sneak under him for second."
Wagoner's third place run came in part because he found the rubber early on. "Starting on the outside really helped,": he said. "I think we found the rubber before anyone else did, and we picked a couple off. I think we may have been faster than Kaley later on, but it was hard to pass. The way our year has gone, this was really good."
Parrish, who did a nice job by winning the dash, held on to fourth, ahead of Steward. Matt Sutton, Bobby Mincer, Jim Moughan Jr., Jamison and Bret Tripplett rounded out the top ten.
Heats were won by Parrish, Gharst and Joey Moughan. Jordan Goldesberry had a right rear wheel hub break, sending the #65 sprint car upside down and scratched for the night. Josh Fisher also tipped over in his heat, but the team made repairs in time for him to start the main event.
Next up, the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders hit the Muscatine County Fair and the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa on Saturday, July 3.

Kaley Gharst dominates at Lee County!
(Bill W) June 9, 2010 - Kaley Gharst led start to finish on a fast track at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa Wednesday night. The win over the 30 sprinters assembled was the fourth Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders tally for him at the 3/8 mile oval, and the 14th all-time (tied for 1st) with the series.'
A draw by Shake-Up Dash winner Jim Moughan Jr. put Gharst, driving the Plath Motorsports #14P on the pole for the 25-lapper. The Decatur, Illinois driver broke out to an early lead, while Tasker Phillips rode the rim in turns one and two to shoot in the runner-up position. Moughan moved by Josh Higday into third before a lap eight caution for a stopped Ben Wagoner.
Gharst pulled away on the restart, and Higday moved into third before Travis Porter spun on lap 11. The next 11 laps went non-stop, and Gharst built a large advantage. Higday and Phillips battled for second, and Moughan entered the battle as well. Eventually, Phillips would lock down the runner-up spot with Moughan and Higday in tow.
The last stoppage came on a red for Jon Agan, who flipped on the frontstretch, battling in the top ten with three laps to go. The three lap dash did not phase Gharst, who navigated the cushion in turns one and two and the low side of three and four. "We haven't been running well, and we put together a car we ran last year," said Gharst. "We ran against the fence on the top of turns one and two, and there was a pretty big hole in three and four, so I didn't want to test the high side. It was just good to get a win after struggling like we've been."
The seventeen year old, Phillips, registered a career best second place finish. "I was just trying to get through turn one," he said of his run on the cushion to move into second.. "I usually struggle with the full fuel load. I could have kept running the cushion, but I lost my brakes about lap five. I was using the bump in turn three as my brake and I exited low in four. The finish was a bonus, and it means we may be able to travel a little more. We're pretty much done in the field now."
Moughan talked of his third place run. "I loved the track. It's a big track for me, and I need to get used to running the big tracks again. The car was tight to start, and got a lot better in the middle of the race. I traded third with Higday a few times, and it was rolling good until the red came out. It's good to get another top three."
Mark Shirshekan drove from 12th to 4th , while Russ Hall rounded out the top five. Finishing sixth through tenth were Higday, hard-charger Bobby Mincer, Ryan Jamison, Donnie Steward and Matt Sutton. In addition to the dash, Moughan also picked up his heat race. Other winners were Mike Hess, Wagoner and Gharst. Mincer took the B main. Mike Houseman Jr. was not able to start the feature after getting upside down after contact from Hall in a battle for second at the end of their heat race. Mike Williams flipped out of the park over turn two in the fourth heat. Neither driver was injured. The next event on the Sprint Invaders calendar is Friday, June 25 at the Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois. CJ Dominates CJ with Sprint Invaders
(Bill W) May 28, 2010 – It was all about CJ on Friday night with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders. CJ Houseman won at the CJ Speedway in convincing fashion, posting his second career feature win with the Sprint Invaders. He led all 20 laps on the 4/10 mile oval in Columbus Junction, Iowa.
By virtue of the Shake-Up Dash draw, CJ started on the pole of the feature and took off immediately. A long night of racing took its toll on the track and streaks of rubber quickly developed on the hard surface.
CJ’s car seemed hooked up better than any of his competitors. “The track helped a lot, but all the way from the heat to the dash to the feature, it was perfect,” he said. “We burnt the tires pretty good, but the win makes up for it. I can’t say enough about my guys, and this is my brother’s (Mike Jr.) motor. My dad would sell his house just to be able to let us do this.”
Donnie Steward was in pursuit of the leader, with Matt Sutton, Joe Beaver and Jon Agan behind him when rookie Mike Williams spun in turn two and collected Seth Wilke and John Schulz. Only Schulz would return.
On the restart, Beaver and Agan worked under Matt Sutton. Five laps later, Sid Blandford Jr. made heavy contact with the frontstretch fence, bringing out the last caution of the night. From there, it was smooth sailing for CJ, as he pulled away from the rest of the field.
Beaver found his way by Steward to finish second. “We had a decent starting spot, and it was a good night for us,” he said. “The rubber kept getting heavier and heavier, and the two restarts helped us. We were able to get under some guys. The car was so good, it was lifting in the corners.”
Agan settled for a strong third. “We were good all night long, but our starts weren’t like we’d wanted them,” he said. “Once we got to the halfway point in our races, we were going good, but we gave the leaders too much of a cushion. Rubber-down is always tough, and our biggest issues were some brake problems. It’s tough to be smooth that way. To pass a few cars is a good thing.”
One of the few to still pull to the races with an open trailer, CJ Houseman cherished the win. “It’s safe to say we’re underfunded,” he said. “It’s hard to race with the big sponsor/big buck teams, so the wins are special. What you see on the track is what we have in our operation. Hopefully, we can go two for two tomorrow night!”
Saturday night, the Sprint Invaders hit the 34 Raceway, where it is “Free-4-All” Night. Admission to the grandstands will be FREE, with pit passes only going for $12!
Beaver, Ryan Jamison and Sutton won Friday heats, while Sutton also took the dash. Bobby Mincer returned after his big crash at Jacksonville Speedway on May 7 to take the B main, and then earned hard-charger honors, driving from 16th to 9th in the main event.
